7 Lessons on Confidence, Advocacy, and Growth from the Ms. JD Leadership Academy

What I shared - and what I took away - from a weekend of bold conversations with the next generation of women in law.

I had the honor of speaking at the Ms. JD Leadership Academy Intensive on March 28th, and I left feeling something I want every legal professional to experience: energized, grounded, and genuinely inspired. Over the course of the Academy, we explored themes of self-advocacy, resilience, growth, and the kind of meaningful connection that only happens when brilliant women come together with a shared purpose.

Speaking alongside other incredible thought leaders and being in the room with the next generation of women in law reminded me why this work matters so much. The conversations were honest, the energy was electric, and the insights that emerged were ones I carry with me into every coaching session I lead.

If you weren't in the room that weekend, consider this your invitation in. Because the insights that emerged on confidence, advocacy, and owning your path are ones every legal professional deserves to hear.

What's possible when we lift each other up? This weekend was a powerful reminder.

7 Takeaways to Accelerate Your Legal Career

  1. Confidence grows through experience and repetition — keep showing up. It isn't something you wait to feel before you act. It's built in the doing, one step at a time.

  2. Setbacks can launch growth, perspective, and wisdom. When things don't go as planned, the question isn't what went wrong — it's how you respond strategically.

  3. When self-doubt arises, ground yourself in your skills and the work you've done. You've earned your seat. Let your track record speak back to you.

  4. Energy and time are finite — use both wisely. Protecting your capacity isn't a luxury; it's a career strategy.

  5. Trust is earned through the quality of your work and the consistency of how you show up. Reputation is built in the small moments, not just the big ones.

  6. No one will champion your career like you can — advocate for yourself. Your goals, your ambitions, your next step: own them out loud.

  7. The clearer you are about your goals, the more effectively others can help you grow. Clarity is a gift you give yourself and everyone in your corner.

Why these lessons matter

In my work as a legal Career Coach, I talk with attorneys and law students who are navigating uncertainty — questioning whether they're on the right path, struggling to advocate for themselves, or simply burned out from giving everything to their work and leaving nothing for their own growth. These seven principles speak directly to those struggles.

Confidence isn't a personality trait reserved for the boldest person in the room. It's a practice. Advocacy isn't selfish; it's necessary. And clarity? It's the foundation of every strong career move I've ever seen a client make.

The Ms. JD community is a testament to what becomes possible when women in law invest in each other. I'm deeply grateful to the Ms. JD team for creating that space — and to every participant who showed up with open minds and bold ambitions.

If any of these lessons resonated with you, I'd love to hear which one hit hardest. And if you're ready to turn these insights into real momentum in your own career, let's talk.
